Examples of big fishing tournaments in Florida include the Mayors Cup in Miami every January and the World Sailfish Championship in Key West in April, which has a $1 million dollar purse.

The invasive lionfish have been growing in large numbers in the Florida Keys.  This non-native lionfish are eating native fish and crustaceans in large quantities harming the coral reef and ecosystems in the Keys.  The Lionfish Derby series takes place in 3 locations on different dates.
