In 2012, the tournament takes place February 23-26,2012. The cash and prizes for the 2012 Billfish Challenge add up to $225,000 for the tournament.
Boats are limited to 35 miles off the Florida coastline and can go as far north or south as they want. The Billfish Challenge is open to 3 inlets:
1. Government Cut, Miami Florida
2. Hillsboro Inlet, Pompano Beach Florida
3. Lake Worth Inlet, Palm Beach Florida
Schedule
On Thursday February 23, 2012, the kickoff party takes place at the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) Hall of Fame Museum from 6 pm to 10 pm. There will be live music, appetizers, open bar, networking, interactive fishing exhibit, silent auction, and where you need to pick up your tournamnet bags, shirts, and boat number. The captain’s meeting is at 8 pm to review the rules.
On Saturday, February 25, 2012, the competition day begins with checkout at 7:00 am from your inlet. By 7:30 am, lines are in. Lines out of water and check in is no later than 5:30 pm at the inlets.
On Sunday, February 26, 2012, the awards party is from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Blue Moon Fish Co. There will be great food, drinks, and music. The Blue Moon Fish Co. is located at 4405 Tradewinds Ave., Lauderdale by the Sea, FL 33308.
Prizes
General entry prizes range from $10,000 for the top team to $600 for 10th place. Other prize winning divisions include, Heaviest Fish, Angler, Kids, Top amateur team, Go fly a Kite, and the Bacardi 8 Challenge. A portion of the proceeds from The Sailfish Challenge benefit the local charity, Reconstructing Lives.
