The Annual Spring Bike Tour is a week long bicycle adventure in a different part of the state each year. The 2016 Surf and Turf Tour is a fully supported vacation for cyclists of all ages and abilities.  It takes place April 9 - 15, 2016.  The tour begins with over 500 riders in Arcadia, travels through Sarasota, and ends in Englewood, Florida.

Recognized as one of largest and best antique shows in the USA, the West Palm Beach Antiques Festival has been around over 20 years. Each month, the show features a variety of antiques, collectibles and accessories from dealers all over the country.

Bike Florida 2016 “Surf and Turf” travels throughout the Gulf Coast of Florida.. Riders will experience the rural scenery of Arcadia, Florida’s “Rodeo Capitol”, continue on to the natural parks, beaches, and shopping in Sarasota.  The last leg takes riders along the picturesque coastline of the Gulf Shore ending with a party in Englewood.  Bike Florida was created to promote safe cycling practices. Bike Florida was established as a fundraising event to help support the Florida Traffic and Bicycle Safety Education Program with proceeds supporting bicycle safety education and a regional training team that hosts bicycle safety education workshops for school teachers, youth leaders and law enforcement officers.

Bike Florida’s Course

Cyclists choose between a 7, 5, 2, and 1 day ride averaging 40 -100 miles/day.  The ride begins in Arcadia and ends in Englewood, Florida, biking through scenic routes to the host city.  The tour will stay two-nights at each host city in order to take advantage of local rides and southern charm. Indoor and outdoor camping is available.  Restaurants suggestions for meals are marked along the way, lunch vendors will be available each day, meal plans are available.  Bike Florida is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote safe cycling in Florida.





Enjoy a weekend of unique arts and crafts while experiencing a festival ranked as one of the 100 Fine Art Shows by Sunshine Artist Magazine.  Over 260 local, regional, and national artists will showcase their unique art along 5th Avenue South in Downtown Naples.

About the Festival

The Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival is named America’s Best Art Fair for 2015.  Each year more than 350,000 visitors enjoy the show.  This year about 1,100 artists from around the world applied and judges selected 225 national and international artists along with 3 emerging artists to exhibit at the show.  An all volunteer board of directors runs the annual Festival.

Held along the A1A oceanfront, the 28th Annual Art Fest by the Sea has become a popular festival with its beautiful location.  Festival attendees will view life size sculptures, ceramics, and paintings while enjoying a warm ocean breeze. 
Directions:
The festival is located on A1A (Ocean Boulevard) on Juno Beach overlooking the beach.  Take I-95 to Jupiter, and exit on Donald Ross Road (Exit 83.) Head east to A1A on the beach.  At Donald Ross Road and US 1, go north, and enter the show site through Loggerhead Park.  Free parking and shuttle service available at the FPL lot on Universe Blvd & Ellison-Wilson Road. The 27th Annual celebration of Florida and its folk music, The Will McLean Music Festival honors the work of native Floridian, Will McLean as well as others who write and sing about Florida. Held at the Sertoma Youth Ranch in Brooksville, Florida, the festival will feature Florida songwriting contests, entertainment, demonstrations, workshops, arts and crafts and storytelling.

Charities that Benefit

The Amelia Island Concous d’ Elegance benefits many local charities in the Jacksonville area including the Community Hospice of Northeast Florida which cares for hundreds of terminally ill children and adults in North Florida each year regardless of their ability to pay. This event has raised over $2.2 million for Hospice.  Other charities are the Spina Bifida Association of Florida at Jacksonville (SBAJ), Shop with Cops, Duval County 4-H Foundation, and Navy Marine Corps Relief Society.

Every March, Fairchild is host to this Annual Orchid Festival with beautiful orchids from around the world.  The top orchids are judged by the American Orchid Society during this event.  You can also select and purchase orchids at the show while enjoying food and entertainment.

This 3 day historical event provides great fun. Friday is Education Day, local schools visit and experience life during the Civil War. On Saturday or Sunday, bring a chair and prepare to see battles as they were back in the Civil War time. Civil War Battle Reenactment

The Annual Central Florida Fair takes place February 25th- March 13th.  Started in 1910, the Central Florida Fair averages 250,000 in attendance. The fair is located on 87 acres near downtown Orlando and will give out $200,000 in prize money for various competitions.

Rides, Exhibits, and Entertainment

There are more than 100 rides from stomach dropping thrillers for the adrenaline seekers to Kiddie Land for the youngest riders. Other exhibits and contests at the Central Florida Fair include:

Creative Arts – with nearly 3,000 handmade items in over 200 categories, including Fine Arts, Needlework, and Crafts and Hobbies.
Food Arts and Sciences – a feast of baked goods, canned fruits, decorated cakes, and decorative touches for the home, plus dozens of daily chef demonstrations on a state-of-the-art kitchen stage.
Horticulture – lush displays of flowers and foliage, plus information on gardening, water conservation, landscaping, and more.
FFA – local middle and high school chapters present educational booths on landscaping, animal husbandry, veterinary care, and more.

Livestock – featuring over 2,000 cows, horses, sheep, hogs, goats, chickens, and rabbits.
Entertainment – over 100 groups featuring 800 singers, dancers and musicians on three stages.

Cortez Village is located Bradenton, 50 miles south of Tampa, Florida.  Visitors and locals celebrate “Old Florida” heritage and pride in a fisherman’s life.  The Cortez Fishing Festival is a two day event with live entertainment, music, boat rides, marine life exhibits, arts, crafts and tons of delicious fresh seafood. 

In 1981, there were about 500 attendess to the event.  Now there’s more than 25,000 visitors to this seafood extravaganza.

Cortez Village and Things To Do

An old town in Florida.  When you turn off the main road into Cortez Village you’re taking a step back in time. The houses are small cottages with collections of commercial boats and gear in the yards.

Go two blocks down to the shoreline and you’ll discover a number of fish houses where local fishermen sell their catches. Cortez is located on the northern edge of Sarasota Bay and it might just be one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Add great live music, nautical arts and crafts, children’s activities, environmental exhibits, tasty seafood to Cortez Village to make up a great festival in February every year.

To find Cortez Village on a map, locate Bradenton which is about 50 miles south of Tampa. Find State Road 684, known locally as Cortez Road or 44th Avenue, and go west to the beaches. History of the Battle of Olustee

The Union troops commanded by General Truman A. Seymour left South Carolina with an objective to occupy Jacksonville Florida, their 4th occupation.  Their goals were to disrupt transportation links and deprive the Confederacy of food supplies from central Florida, gain black recruits for the Union army, and help Unionists in east Florida organize a loyal state government.

The Union troops landed in Jacksonville on February 7, 1864.  During the month of January, the Confederate forces were preparing for an offensive. They positioned themselves at Olustee near a lake called Ocean Pond to narrow the passage of the Union troops.

On February 20, 1864 the Union force of 5,500 men and 16 cannon marched westward from Macclenny until they met up with the Confederate troops. Battle casualties amounted to 1,861 Union and 946 Confederate soldiers. In proportion to the number of troops involved, it was one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War.

    The 30th Annual Civil War Heritage Days features a sea battle with schooners, re-enactors dressed in period costumes, demonstrations and Kid’s day!  Come south and enjoy crafts from the Civil War era and experience a land and sea battle.  This event that will have you experiencing life in the Florida Keys as it was back in the mid 1800’s. 

    Fort Taylor was the guardian of the shipping lanes to ports on the Gulf of Mexico.  The Fort was placed under a blockade by President Lincoln in 1861. Blockade runners captured by Union navy vessels were forced to anchor in front of the fort as captured “war prizes.” Federal and CSA troops will have an opportunity to be aboard authentic 1860s schooners in Key West Harbor to engage in battle.

    The popular Trawler Fest returns to Riviera Beach January 26 - 31, 2016.

    Visitors can view in-water displays as well as see the industry’s latest products and services.  Tips by professionals, demonstrations,  seminars, and boating classes are held throughout the weekend.  Attendees and exhibitors can enjoy the end of day with with music, cocktails, and dinner and other activities.





    This exciting annual event begins with a Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Rodeo.  Free helmets (while supplies last) given to the children and then they ride through the fun safety course. The preschooler stroll is next with Tampa’s youngest pirates stroll down Bayshore Drive. 

    Watch the Gasparilla Air Invasion parachute jump by the U.S. Special Operations Command Jump Team followed by the Children’s Gasparilla Parade.  Lastly, the “Piratechnic” Extravaganza, a recreation of the imaginary sea battle between pirates and the City of Tampa!

    The Ravine Gardens invites everyone to enjoy the gardens illuminated in holiday colors while enjoying music of the season!

    A ravine was created over thousands of years by water flowing from the sandy ridges on the shore of the St. Johns River. In 1933, this ravine was transformed into a dramatic garden by the federal Works Progress Administration. Much of the original landscaping still exists as formal gardens and an extensive trail system. A 1.8-mile paved road winds around the ravine, offering motorists and bicyclists a view of the gardens. The Ravine Loop is closed to vehicle traffic one hour before sunset, but remains open for pedestrians, bicycles, and wheelchairs. The garden’s peak flowering period is azalea season, late January to April.

    Directions: Ravine Gardens State Park is located in Palatka, Florida. From US17/SR100, turn south onto Moseley Avenue, then turn east onto Twigg Street.  Ravine Gardens State Park is located in Putnam County FL.





    Rainbow Springs State Parks hosts this fun Santa experience every year for the children.  The park is decorated in Christmas lights and decorations.  There will be elves and music around for the children to enjoy while interacting with Santa and getting their photo taken. 





    Enjoy arts and crafts, cookies and juice, and a chance to see the jolly ole man himself.  Bring your camera for a great photo opportunity from 6:30 - 8:30pm.

    2015 Schedule of Events - Southern Pines Blues and BBQ Festival

    The BBQ teams set up and cook all day on Friday, December 11 from 10 am to 4 pm.  The BBQ teams must be done cooking by no later than 5 pm on Friday.  On Saturday, the tasting competition begins.  There will be the People’s Choice, Chicken, Pork Ribs, Brisket, and other featured BBQ tasted and judged.

    The Holidays are a perfect time to visit Key West.  Each evening from 6pm to 8pm stroll through the designated historic inns, bed and breakfasts, and guest houses decorated for the holidays with the tropics in mind. The inns feature art, fine food and refreshments.

    St. Augustine’s Christmas Parade has grown into one of the largest parades in North Florida.  This parade includes floats, marching bands, entertainment, horses, cars, and of course, Santa. Pictures with Santa are available after the parade.  The parade begins at the Mission of Nombre de Dios and continues through downtown St. Augustine.

    Main Street Christmas Leesburg

    Fun for the whole family!  The Christmas Parade route is on Main Street from 11th Street to Canal.  The parade begins at 7 pm and features marching bands, twirler and dance groups, and lighted floats.  Presented by the Leesburg Partnership.

    Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park is transformed into a winter wonderland on December 5th. Santa Fest is sure to get you in the holiday mood as Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park is transformed into a winter wonderland with Ice Skating, make-n-take crafts, continuous holiday entertainment, and Holiday Parade. The young, and the young at heart, can visit with Santa and enjoy holiday entertainment.

    The festival begins at 11:00 am, with the Rough Riders Holiday Parade. The Holiday Parade features over 40 units including colorful floats, local school marching bands, antique cars and dance troops. The parade begins at Morgan Street and Madison Street, west to Ashley Drive, turns north and ends at Ashley Drive and Cass Street.

     




    Keys Holiday Festival

    A fun family annual event that welcomes the holiday season. “Snow Mountain” will appear once again. Have the little ones bring their mittens for hours fun in real snow! The Holiday Parade featuring floats, bands, antique cars, and Santa Claus begins at 7pm. Food, activities, live entertainment from local dance schools, contests and more.  Bring Fido for the Santa Paws Contest.

    Silent auctions with ornaments created by local artists, gift bazaar, and food are just part of this wonderful evening.  Bring your mittens and enjoy the snow!





    Celebrate the holiday season December 4 through December 31 while enjoying the light display nightly from sunset until 9pm .  White Springs is located in Hamilton County Florida.


    Driving Directions: Located on U.S. 41 in White Springs. From I-75 to S.R. 136 (Milepost Exit 439 - Old Exit 84), travel east on S.R. 136 for 3 miles. Turn left on U.S. 41. Park entrance is on the left. From I-10 to U.S. 41 North (Milepost Exit 301 - Old Exit 43), travel 9 miles to White Springs. Park entrance is on the left.

    Rides of various distances begin and end at the Kenilworth Lodge each day. Three full mid-day meals in addition to continental breakfast are included in registration. Highlands Bike Fest provides rest stops, hydration, restrooms,and bike support. Check back at the lobby for available massage therapist, vendors, photos, and entertainment.
