This is the only sanctioned US Coast Guard Permitted Race around Key West. Swimmers and relay teams swim 12.5 miles clockwise around the island of Key West beginning and finishing at the Smathers Beach Boat Ramp. Awards given to the the overall top- male and female finishers and the top 6 finishers in each age group.
Sprint Course:
Swim - 1/4 mile swim in the Atlantic Ocean (beach start) with a fresh water shower for transition #1. Swim caps are provided in your race packet and must be worn during the swim.
Bike - 16 miles on flat, fast, out and back course along the coastline of scenic Amelia Island on NE Florida’s beautiful Atlantic coastline.
Run - 3 miles out and back with water stations at mile marks. The run course is out and back through the North Fletcher island community.
Olympic Course:
Swim- 1.5K (0.93 miles) Swim in the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
Bike- 40K (24.7 miles) Flat course with one bridge through scenic Amelia Island.
Run- 10K (6.2 miles) Out and back shaded course through Fort Cinch.
The annual Miami Bahamas Goombay Festival is an event that celebrates the settlement of the Bahamian people in Coconut Grove, Florida, from the 1800s. Bahamians came to Coconut Grove in the 1800s looking for jobs and a home for their families.
The festival features authentic Bahamian food and a variety of activities and events. A historical luncheon, Bahamian dance performances, live Bahamian music, costume parade, Gospel service, and a Gospel feast are a few festivities you can enjoy. The Goombay Festival is designed to preserve and educate the public on the American Bahamian rich heritage and traditions.
The Street Festival transforms Grand Avenue into a Caribbean culture with a Bahamas flavor.

The original owners did not believe in harsh chemicals or sprays and their grandchildren continue the practice today. The berries are all natural and the only thing that keeps them from being completely organic is the use of synthetic fertilizers.

The farm has some great blueberry recipes, here’s one of the favorites:
Blueberry Cream Cheese Pie
2 unbaked pie shells 2 cups confectioners sugar
1 cup pecans (optional) 16 oz. Cool Whip
1 pkg. (8 oz) cream cheese (softened) Blueberry Pie Filling
Break up pecans, put half in each pie shell. Bake at 350 until pie shells are lightly browned. Cool.
Mix cream cheese with confectioners sugar. Beat until creamy. Divide between 2 pie shells.
Layer cool whip then pie filling. Top with another layer of Cool Whip. Chill at least 1 hour before serving.

Big Tarpon and Big Money draw hundreds of people to Boca Grande, FL every May
If you have ever wanted to visit Boca Grande Florida then this is the time. From May 23 to May 25 there are several events. The weekend kicks off with the World Richest Tarpon Tournament, followed by the Gasparilla Island Kids Classic Tarpon Tournament, and Downtown Festival.
The Tournament is limited to 50 boats and there is a $2,000 entry fee.

Pompano Beach Fishing Rodeo History
The Fishing Rodeo started in 1965 by the Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce to keep winter tourists in South Florida longer than the winter months. The tournament was named the Fishing Rodeo because it is a “roundup” of the most popular fishing species. In 1978, the Pompano Beach Fishing Rodeo was incorporated as a non-profit corporation.
The Battle in the Bay Dragon Boat Festival will be held on May 11, 2013, on Sombrero Beach in Marathon, Florida Keys. There are twenty paddlers per boat who paddle to the beat of a drummer seated inside the bow and are guided to the finish line by the steersman inside the stern. A portion of this year’s event proceeds benefits Reef Relief, an organization dedicated to preserving living coral reef ecosystems.

This annual event is a fun, sandy and popular sand sculpting contest on Siesta Key. All day long you can enjoy watching the sand sculptures being created by artists of all ages.
The judging starts at 1pm with winners announcement at 2 pm. There are cash prizes for first, second, and third place for each category. The categories include adult - humorous, adult - miscellaneous, children - 10 years and younger, and children 11-17 years of age.

Siesta Beach - Take Rt. 41 to Stickney Point, then west over the Stickney Point Bridge. Turn right just over the bridge onto Midnight Pass Rd and follow it until it becomes Beach Road ending at Siesta Beach.
The historic home and garden tour in Apalachicola takes you back in time to see homes over 100 years old.
The Historic Apalachicola Home and Garden Tour is presented by the Trinity Episcopal Church in Apalachicola Florida on May 3rd and 4th.
There are two different events - the Symposium on Friday, which costs $75 and the Home and Garden Tours, which costs $15.
The weekend kicks off on Thursday evening and continues through Saturday.

The 6th Annual Choctawhatchee Estuary Family Festival is fun and educational on topics about the coastal environment, local critters, ground water, and red tides. It is hosted by the Friends of the Emerald Coast State Parks and the Mattie M. Kelly Cultural and Environmental Institute of Northwest Florida State College. There is also an amateur photo contest.

The IFA Redfish Tournament East Coast Division will be held in Jacksonville on April 27th. This is a one day fishing tournament for Redfish with two angler teams that launches at Beach Marine. Kayak event will be held on April 28th.

The 29th annual Pompano Beach Seafood Festival has drawn crowds of over 100,000 people to this major festival with music, art, crafts, children’s activities, and fabulous food. Local restaurants prepare the fresh catch and offer samplings along the rows of food booths. Proceeds benefit over 50 charities.
Directions and Parking
The Pompano Beach Seafood Festival is located at the East end of Atlantic Boulevard in Pompano Beach. The main entrance to the festival is on the corner of Atlantic and A1A. Other entrances are on Pompano Beach Boulevard about 300 feet South of the Pompano Pier and Britney Avenue and Atlantic.
Parking is available at municipal lots on the beach across from the Pier at NE 2nd Street and on Riverside Drive. There is paid parking on private lots and other areas on Atlantic Boulevard. Free trolley service runs from the parking lots at both Wachovia and Washington Mutual Banks.

The 35th Annual Siesta Fiesta is a breezy Arts and Craft Festival along the beach in Siesta Key Village in Sarasota, Florida. Over 250 talented artists and crafters will be in attendance. A great opportunity to view or purchase unique and one-of-kind art, sculptures, photos and more. There will be a green market featuring plants, body products, and specialty food items.
This event is a great weekend for families who enjoy fossils and interesting displays of shark teeth. The festival also features food vendors, live music and fun activities for children. The 3rd Annual Shark’s Tooth 10K starts at 7:30 on Saturday, April 13. Check website for registration information.

An Armadillo Skeleton at the Fossil Fest in Tampa, Florida
Fossil Fest is Florida’s largest prehistoric show where the public can view countless fossils found right here in Florida, as well as artifacts from Florida’s prehistoric people. Fossil Fest features educational activities for both children and adults on saber-toothed cats, giant wolves, sharks the size of school buses, and cavemen. This lively event is held in the downtown area of Hyde Park Village, a beautiful area for this festival. On display will be paintings, jewelry, ceramics and unique photos.

Bike Florida 2013 “Orange Blossom Express” was created to promote safe cycling practices. Bike Florida was established as a fundraising event to help support the Florida Traffic and Bicycle Safety Education Program with proceeds supporting bicycle safety education and a regional training team that hosts bicycle safety education workshops for school teachers, youth leaders and law enforcement officers.
Bike Florida’s Course
Cyclists travel 30 to 68 miles a day with a three century options from each of the host cities. completing a total of 175 - 475 miles. The ride begins and ends in Lakeland, Florida, biking through scenic orange groves to the host city. The tour will stay two-nights at each host city in order to take advantage of local rides and southern charm. Indoor and outdoor camping is available. Restaurants suggestions for meals are marked along the way, lunch vendors will be available each day. Bike Florida is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote safe cycling in Florida.

Only original work may be displayed at the Winter Park Art Festival. There is a wide variety of outstanding artwork displayed at the art festival. The art categories include Clay, Digital Art, Drawing and Graphics, Fiber, Glass, Jewelry, Leather, Metal, Mixed Media, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Watercolor and Wood.
Winter Park Art Festival Hours
The festival begins on Friday, March 15 from 9 am to 6 pm. On Saturday, March 16, the art festival is from 9am to 6 pm. On the last day, Sunday, March 17, the art festival is from 9 am to 5 pm.
About the Festival
The Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival has been rated among the top shows by Sunshine Artist and American Style magazines. Each year more than 350,000 visitors enjoy the show. This year about 1,100 artists from around the world applied and judges selected 225 national and international artists along with 3 emerging artists to exhibit at the show. An all volunteer board of directors runs the annual Festival.
Prize Money Over the 50 Years
Since first starting in 1960, the Winter Park Art Festival has grown tremendously in prize money from $40 for Best of Show in 1960 to $10,000 for Best of Show in 2011. Here’s a quick glimpse of how the prize money has grown over the years!

Held along the A1A oceanfront, the 25th Annual Art Fest by the Sea has become a popular festival with its beautiful location. Festival attendees will view life size sculptures, ceramics, and paintings while enjoying a warm ocean breeze. The Jupiter Art Fest is held on A1A between Donald Ross Road and Marcinski.
More than 20,000 people attend this event.

Harley Davidson in Daytona Beach hosts Bike Week Events
When you arrive at Bike Week, you need to stop by the Official Bike Week Welcome Center for free information on area events. The welcome center is located at Riverfront Park, across from Daytona-Harley Davidson, Beach Street. The Riverfront Park will be open from 9 am to 8 pm showcasing major motorcycle manufacturers, food court, live entertainment, and have Bike Week merchandise for sale.
Ride The Loop
Motorcycle enthusiasts everywhere enjoy the open road, sunshine, and graceful curves around the 22 miles called The Loop. The Loop begins with a northerly trek at the foot of the Granada Bridge on John Anderson Drive in Ormond Beach. Bring your camera as you’ll come across Florida’s natural beauty along the Intercoastal water way, the Fairchild Oak tree (one of Florida’s oldest living Oaks), and Ormond Park.

An annual celebration of Florida and its folk music, The Will McLean Music Festival honors the work of native Floridian, Will McLean as well as others who write and sing about Florida. Charities that Benefit
The Amelia Island Concous d’ Elegance benefits many local charities in the Jacksonville area including the Community Hospice of Northeast Florida which cares for hundreds of terminally ill children and adults in North Florida each year regardless of their ability to pay. This event has raised over $1.5 million for Hospice. Other charities are the Spina Bifida Association of Florida at Jacksonville (SBAJ), Shop with Cops, Duval County 4-H Foundation, and Navy Marine Corps Relief Society.

See Orchids at Fairchild Gardens in Miami
Every March, Fairchild is host to this Annual Orchid Festival with beautiful orchids from around the world. The top orchids are judged by the American Orchid Society during this event. You can also select and purchase orchids at the show while enjoying food and entertainment.

Since 2007, the Cadillac Championship, one of four World Golf Championship tournaments, has been played on the TPC Blue Monster course in Doral Florida. A field of 70 top professional golfers from around the world will compete for a purse valued over $8 million.

The Florida Azalea Festival in Palatka
Come out and enjoy one of Florida’s Oldest Festivals. It is located along the banks of the beautiful St. John’s River. Almost as popular as the Venice show in the fall, the 12th Annual Downtown Venice Art Classic is held in Downtown Venice along West Avenue. The Art Classic showcases a combination of older and more contemporary art. Come see a one of a kind art show filled with sculptures, painting and unique jewelry.

The St Augustine Lions Seafood and Music Festival
The whole family will enjoy this 3 day annual event with fresh seafood, arts and crafts, rides, and live entertainment with bluegrass, folk and country music. All proceeds benefit the Lions Club charities.
The St Augustine Seafood and Music Festival hours are Friday from 3 pm to 9 pm, Saturday from 10 am to 9 pm, and Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. Enjoy food prepared by award winning vendors such as Peerce’s Crabcakes, Tony’s Cedar Key Chowder, The Laughing Crab, Seafood Unlimited and more! Roller coaster at the Central Florida Fair
The 101th Annual Central Florida Fair takes place February 28- March 10. Started in 1910, the Central Florida Fair averages 250,000 in attendance. The fair is located on 87 acres near downtown Orlando and will give out $200,000 in prize money for various competitions.

Central Florida Fair Livestock
The Central Florida Fair has been celebrating the agricultural heritage of Florida for nearly 100 years. More than 2,600 entries annually, the Central Florida Fair presents one of the largest livestock shows in the Florida region. In 2006, a horse show was introduced.

Livestock is a big part of the Strawberry Festival in Plant City, FL
Come and see favorites such as McIllroy and Woods compete and enjoy the fine food, live concerts, and fireworks at the end of the day. Money raised from the tournament benefits the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation.

The Daytona 500 is a 200 lap, 500 mile race. The start time is set for 1:00 pm. The winner of the Daytona 500 receives the Harley J. Earl Trophy in Victory Lane, and the winning car is displayed for one year at Daytona 500 Experience, a museum and gallery next to the Daytona International Speedway.

Qualifying is unique for the Daytona 500. Some teams must race their way into the Daytona 500 field but since 2005, all exempt teams (the top 35 teams of the previous year in owner points) are guaranteed a spot in the Daytona 500. The first row is set by one round of qualifying which is held one week before the race.

Art on display at the Key West Art Show
Two days of nationally recognized artists from around the country display their beautiful paintings from watercolor to oil and acrylic, decorative sculptures, photography, and other fine art.
Held in historic downtown Stuart on Osceola Boulevard, the Downtown Stuart Art Festival has become one of the main art fairs in the area. The show is set up along Osceola Street in Stuart’s historic downtown area. This 23rd year event brings together some of the best artists in the nation, displaying life-size sculptures, spectacular paintings, one of a kind jewels, photography and more.

Historical Battle Reenactment at the fort DeSoto Park located in Tierra Verde Florida
Join hundreds of spectators who visit Fort DeSoto Park to see a Civil War Reenactment and Encampment. Many re-enactors, sutlers and horses will take part in the activities that include drills and a battle each day. You can visit both Union and Confederate camps which are set up as they were back in the Civil War era. A fun family event for all.

This 3 day historical event provides great fun. Friday is Education Day, local schools visit and experience life during the Civil War. On Saturday or Sunday, bring a chair and prepare to see battles as they were back in the Civil War time. You will have an opportunity to visit camps and talk to re-enactors. There will be a Ladies Tea on Saturday morning, a Soldiers Ball for reenactors on Saturday night and church services for all on Sunday morning. The Food Network South Beach Wine and Food Festival is a 4 day star studded event focused on the talents of top chefs and culinary artists, and wine and spirits distributors. Family and adult events are scheduled throughout the 4 day weekend.
Day and Evening Events
There are day and evening events with wine tasting, cooking classes and seminars, taste tests, and concerts. Superstar chefs will be making appearances like Anne Burrell, Scott Conant, Sunny Anderson, Giada De Laurentiis, Paula Deen, Bobby Flay, and Guy Fieri.

You can purchase tickets online and many events sell out fast. The events include wine tasting, luncheons, dinner, and auctions.

The Pasco County Fairgrounds is located at 36722 S.R. 52 in Dade City. It is approximately 8 miles east of I-75 (Exit # 285).
Join the thousands of participants to raise funds to Finish Breast Cancer! Last year, over 7000 runners raised more than $800,000 for this worthy cause. Enjoy the cool February temperature of Jacksonville, Florida as you run through the unique beach communities, 2.5 miles of the course will take you the the hard sand packed beach! Water, restrooms, fuel and aid stations will be positioned throughout the course. The course will remain open for 7 hours. If you don’t want to run, but want to help the cause, please volunteer your time.

Fishing in Cortez Florida
Cortez Village is located Bradenton, 50 miles south of Tampa, Florida. Visitors and locals celebrate “Old Florida” heritage and pride in a fisherman’s life. The Cortez Fishing Festival is a two day event with live entertainment, music, boat rides, marine life exhibits, arts, crafts and tons of delicious fresh seafood.
In 1981, there were about 500 attendess to the event. Now there’s more than 25,000 visitors to this seafood extravaganza.
Cortez Village and Things To Do
An old town in Florida. When you turn off the main road into Cortez Village you’re taking a step back in time. The houses are small cottages with collections of commercial boats and gear in the yards.
Go two blocks down to the shoreline and you’ll discover a number of fish houses where local fishermen sell their catches. Cortez is located on the northern edge of Sarasota Bay and it might just be one of the most beautiful places on earth.
Add great live music, nautical arts and crafts, children’s activities, environmental exhibits, tasty seafood to Cortez Village to make up a great festival in February every year.
Directions to Cortez Village
To find Cortez Village on a map, locate Bradenton which is about 50 miles south of Tampa. Find State Road 684, known locally as Cortez Road or 44th Avenue, and go west to the beaches. As you approach Cortez Bridge which leads to Bradenton Beach, you will turn left, or south, at 124th St. Ct. West, into Cortez Village.
Parking near Cortez Village
Some parking is available in Cortez Village if you arrive early enough. There is additional parking at Coquina Beach on the island and at Sugg Middle School at 3801 59th Street West, just north of the intersection of Cortez Road and 59th Street West. Buses shuttle visitors from both of these locations to Cortez for $2 round trip.
