Annual DeLand Original Music Festival

The 14th Annual DeLand Original Music Festival, and 2014 SSA Music Festival Awards, will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014. The event will take place in historic downtown DeLand from 1:00 pm to 2:00 am.

Florida Professional Golf Tour

The Florida Professional Golf Tour organizes golf events throughout Florida each year from November thru March.  Professional golfers from around the world compete in mini-tours for cash prizes.  It was established in 2006 by Rick Hendershot and Mac Snow as a developmental tour for professional golfers in the Central Florida area.

Key Largo Bridge Run

Enjoy the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean on top of the newly built Jewfish Creek Bridge.  The Key Largo Bridge Run takes place Saturday, November 8, 2014.  The run takes you over part of the historic 18 mile stretch called “The Gateway to the Keys.”  The run includes Half Marathon, 10k and 5k Run/Walk.

You’ll get a bird’s eye view where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Gulf waters while running over the 1 1/2 mile bridge.  Then you’ll enjoy the unspoiled Everglades through the flat portion of the course while enjoying the beginning of the Florida Keys.

The invasive lionfish have been growing in large numbers in the Florida Keys.  This non-native lionfish are eating native fish and crustaceans in large quantities harming the coral reef and ecosystems in the Keys.  The Lionfish Derby series takes place in 3 locations on different dates.

    The average November weather in Panama City Florida is a high 72 and low 48.  Humidity is about 45% with winds from the northeast at about 8 mph.  The water temperature average ranges from 68 to 72 degrees.

    Ironman Florida Course

    The Ironman Florida starts off with a 2.4 mile swim on the beach behind the Boardwalk Beach Resort, in the Gulf of Mexico. The course is a 2.4 mile two-loop swim.  The water temperature is typically between 68 to 72 degrees this time of the year. The beach is open for spectators to watch the swim event.

    Second, participants in the Ironman take a 112 mile bike ride. The bike portion of this event is flat and fast with possible winds being a factor., although wiind can play a factor in the race. The ride begins and ends at the Boardwalk Beach Resort. The bike course is one loop making it difficult for spectators to view the Ironman due to traffic regulations. The best place to connect with athletes is in the bike transition area.

    Last is the 26.2 mile marathon run which is a 2 loop course with a turnaround at St. Andrews State Park. The run course has mile markers and aid stations about every mile. Traffic cones will be used to separate the runners from the traffic where necessary. The run course travels through Panama City Beach and spectators can line the streets to watch athletes run to the finish.

    Halifax Art Festival

    Jewelry, textiles, ceramics, wood, metal, glass, and photography will be on display at the Halifax Art Festival in Daytona Beach


    Halifax Art Festival, the 2nd oldest festival in Florida draws a crowd of over 45,000 visitors each year.  Come to Riverfront Park to view the works of over 200 juried local and national fine artists. Displayed art for purchase will include jewelry, textiles, ceramics, wood, metal, glass, and photography.  In addition there will be live entertainment, student competitions, kids activities, food from vendors and local cafes.

    The BubbaFest Bike Tour begins in Key Largo on Saturday, November 2, with a 1:00 to 4:00 pm registration at the Holiday Inn, 99701 Overseas Highway. There will be a welcome beach party following registration.

    On Sunday, cyclists bike to the Knights Key area with a Monday layover to enjoy Marathon’s watersports offerings and environmental attractions.  On Tuesday, it’s off to Key West for a couple of days of fun.  On Friday, it’s time to jump back on the bikes to head back towards Key Largo with one stop over in Knights Key before arriving in Key Largo on Saturday.

    The Ft Lauderdale Boat Show is spread out over 6 locations with more than 3 million square feet of boats, yachts, super yachts, engines, and boating accessories.     The first leg of this 70.3 mile sanctioned event will be the 1.2 mile swim in the protected ocean water of downtown Miami.  Participants will then transition to the 56-mile bike ride through scenic tree lined communities.  Finally, the 13.1 mile run will lead athletes along the beautiful waterfront and the Port of Miami.





    Attend educational seminars throughout the day and visit vendors as they demonstrate the latest in gardening skills and techniques.  There will be garden tours and door prizes!  Over 35 vendors selling orchids, tropicals, palms, bromeliads, pottery and more!





    The Pumpkin Patch Express tickets include a 90-minute train ride and the selection of a pumpkin from the patch to take home. There will also be Hay Rides, Lincoln Log Building and Crafts. Seating begins 30 minutes prior to departure. First come, first served within your train car.

    Paddle Florida

    Paddle Florida is a 123 mile Kayak trip from Live Oak Florida to Chiefland Florida


    From October 24 to 29, 2014, Paddle Florida hosts this fun event. 

    Suwannee River Wilderness Trail Background
    The Suwannee River Wilderness Trail is a series of cabins, river camps and private “hubs” along the Suwannee River that are accessible for paddlers, hikers, bikers, horses, and other groups.

    The Florida Park Service and the Suwannee River Water Management District along with private organizations have created the 171-mile Suwannee River Wilderness Trail.  Paddle Florida uses some of the facilities for the Get Down on the Suwannee River paddle event.  There is nightly entertainment around the campfires each evening.

    There is no charge to enter the lighthouse but there is a charge for the boat rides. Shuttle boats are available at City Marina.  Make sure you wear comfortable shoes as you’ll climb a steep hill up to the lighthouse.

    Downtown Sarasota Arts and Crafts Festival

    The Arts and Crafts Festival in Sarasota Florida


    Located along Florida’s Gulf Coast, Sarasota Florida is known for its beautiful white sandy beaches and exceptional architecture.  The annual Downtown Sarasota Arts and Crafts show has become a yearly tradition for many residents as well as spring time visitors. 

    Over 100 crafters from all over the country will be displaying their original pieces of art in all price ranges.  In addition, the Green Market will offer plants, orchids, spices, food and more!  Come enjoy fine arts and crafts.





    Original to the Chinese, Dragon Boat Racing is quickly becoming a fast growing water sport. It’s group of paddlers, paddle to the beat of a drummer seated inside the bow and are guided to the finish line by the steersman inside the stern.  Each boat is decorated with dragon decorations that symbolize health and vitality. 

    This event is being held at the South Florida Dragon Boat Festival on October 4, 2014, in conjunction with many other fun activities at the festival.





    The Hydro Harvest Farms in Ruskin grows all of their produce hydroponically.  There are many reasons hydroponic growing is not only good for you and the produce you consume, it also means they use less water and take up less land.  You can visit the farm on Monday through Saturday from 9 to 5 or on Sunday from 11 to 4. 

    The Giant Pumpkin Patch is open every day from October 4 until November.  Come and pick organic pumpkins grown without pesticides. The 9th Annual BOO Fest is October 25, 2014, fun for all ages. This is a unique way to enjoy your fall holiday. 





    More than 9,000 visitors come celebrate the Williston tradition with peanuts galore and a fun festival including the Little Peanut Royal Family.  The crowning of Little Peanut King and Queen and Baby Peanut is one of the highlights.  The Little Peanut King and Queen are between ages 3 to 6 years old.  The Baby Peanut contestants are infants and toddlers up to age 2.

    The revenue generated from the Central Florida Peanut Festival goes right back into the community!





    The 7th Annual Mad Dog Fishing Classic has its kick-off cocktail party Friday, October 3rd beachside at Chesapeake Resort.  Saturday, October 4th, fishing begins at 7am.  Weigh in begins at the Chesapeake Resort at 4pm followed by a Dock Party,Silent Auction, Dinner Buffet, Awards Ceremony and Celebration Party, Prizes also awarded to top boat, top angler, lady, junior, and more..

    Universal Studios Horror Theater

    From September 19 to November 1, 2014, get the scare of your life when you attend Halloween Horror Night at Universal Studios.  A live bone chilling experience can be had as the theme park is transformed into a hair raising, and thrilling “Walking Dead” experience.  Visit haunted houses and watch out for many of the unexpected zombies and freaks that unexpectedly creep out of every corner.     The tournament’s kick off is at 4 pm on Thursday, September 18 at the Key Colony Inn located at 700 W. Ocean Dr. in Key Colony Beach.  It’s a fun event with individual and team competitions for the largest bonefish and permit.  A 3 species slam is awarded to the top spin or fly angler who releases the largest bonefish, permit and tarpon.  A wet pants award is given to the angler who wades from shore with the best catch.

    Lobster tournament divers will compete in a variety of catagories, including Spiny lobster, Shovelnose lobster, and Big 6.       Florida Sportsman Expo Highlights

      The Florida Sportsman Expo has free ongoing seminars on five stages , kids events, and free lessons at a 100 foot indoor fly-casting pond. One of the biggest attractions is the Rigging it Right Academy for both offshore and inshore fishing.  There are also “learning stations” with supplies on hand including wire, mono, pliers, and fresh bait. The Florida Sportsman magazine team gives hunting tips, personal hands-on instruction on properly rigging baits and lures that work best in the Florida waterways.  Visitors will love the tricked-out swamp buggy and airboat as well as the kayak stage.

The Seafood Festival will offer up some of the freshest seafood in South Florida as well as live musical entertainment, wine/ beer garden,and Kid’s marine zone.

        Recognized as one of largest and best antique shows in the USA, the West Palm Beach Antiques Festival has been around over 20 years. Each month, the show features a variety of antiques, collectibles and accessories from dealers all over the country. 

        Antiques Festival Dates:  The 2014-2015 dates are:  July 4 - 6, August 1 - 3, Sept 5 - 7, Oct. 3 - 5, October 31- November 2, December 5 -7, January 2 -4, and February 6 - 8,  March 6 - 8, April 3 - 5, May 1 - 3, and June 5 - 7.  The times for the Antiques event are: Friday (early bird) 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm,  Saturday: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, and Sunday: 10:00 am - 4:30 pm.

        Hemingway Days

        Hemingway Days in Key West is held at Sloppy Joes and is a look alike contest, as well as many other activities


        The Pulitzer Prize winning author, Ernest Hemingway, lived in Key West in the 1930’s at 907 Whitehead Street.  His home is now a registered National Historic Landmark and still has his writing studio where he spent hours and hours writing.  His home has the first pool every built in Key West. He also loved the Keys lifestyle by visting Sloppy Joe’s on a regular basis and deep sea fishing with family and friends.

        You’ll see amazing look a-likes to Ernest Hemingway during the festival with stocky white-bearded men resembling him.  There will be readings and book signings by nationally acclaimed authors, a museum exhibit of rare Hemingway memorabilia, a fun and crazy “Running of the Bulls” and a 3-day marlin fishing tournament.




        Florida Keys Underwater Music Festival

        The underwater music festival is all about divers, snorkelers and wacky underwater musical instrument


        Local Keys artist, August Powers, has sculpted numerous aquatic instruments to go along with the music. Past events have featured the Snorkeling Elvises, a longhaired mermaid playing the harp, and an underwater band.  The party begins Friday evening and continues on Saturday, please check website for updates.





        Over 4 days, the fun events center around restaurants, block party, music, bikini contests, Mel trivia, cake contest to win an Atocha coin, raffles, and many more prizes and events around the Conch Republic. Proceeds from this annual charity support Wesley House family services.

        The IFA Redfish Tournament East Coast Division will be held in Jacksonville on June 21. This is a one day fishing tournament for Redfish with two angler teams that launches at Beach Marine.

        Bait is limited to artificial lures

        The Redfish Tour is a collection of one day tournaments.

        Sprint Course:
        Swim - 1/4 mile swim in the Atlantic Ocean (beach start) with a fresh water shower for transition #1. Swim caps are provided in your race packet and must be worn during the swim.

        Bike - 16 miles on flat, fast, out and back course along the coastline of scenic Amelia Island on NE Florida’s beautiful Atlantic coastline.

        Run - 3 miles out and back with water stations at mile marks. The run course is out and back through the North Fletcher island community.

        Olympic Course:
        Swim- 1.5K (0.93 miles) Swim in the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

        Bike- 40K (24.7 miles) Flat course with one bridge through scenic Amelia Island.

        Run- 10K (6.2 miles) Out and back shaded course through Fort Cinch.





        This is the only sanctioned US Coast Guard Permitted Race around Key West. Swimmers and relay teams swim 12.5 miles clockwise around the island of Key West beginning and finishing at the Smathers Beach Boat Ramp. Awards given to the the overall top- male and female finishers and the top 6 finishers in each age group.





        Sprint Distance Course
        The event begins with a 1/4 mile swim in the warm Atlantic Ocean in Sandy Key, followed by a 10 mile scenic bike ride in Virginia Key Historic Park, and ending with a 3.1 mile run along the natural landscape of the Atlantic coastline.  Duathlon is also available which is Run, Bike, Run (no swimming.)  The rules are based on USA Triathlon rules.

        International Distance Course
        Begin with a .5 mile ocean swim starting in Sandy Key, next a 20 mile - 4 lap course in Virginia Key Historic Park, and finally a 2 mile run along the natural landscape of the Atlantic Coastline.

        Duathlon:
        Run 1 mile, followed by a 10 mile bike ride and finishing with a 3 mile run.
