According to Golf Magazine, the Stadium course is ranked among the top 80 golf courses in the world and considered the number one golf resort in Florida by Travel & Leisure Magazine.
The Tournament Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass is considered by many to be the fifth major championship in golf. This could be due to the fact that the top 150 players in the world compete in the tournament each May. But another factor is the quality of the golf course.
TPC Sawgrass is part of The Tournament Players Club Network. Eventually there will be one of 23 Golf Courses in the TPC Network. The 23 golf courses in the TPC Network are built to serve as sites for PGA tournaments. They are built to the highest standards – to be the best golf courses in the world - as characterized by TPC Sawgrass and they act as practice courses for PGA tour members.

The Pete Dye course underwent a major renovation in 2006. All the tees, fairways and greens were rebuilt with new sand and a new drainage system that increased the speed of the course. Over 200 new oak, pine, and palm trees were added as well to enhance the beauty and challenge of the Stadium Course.
Play like a Pro Golfer
The Stadium Course has seven different tees to play from. The Gold tees are where the professionals play. From the gold tees the course is 7,215 yards long with a slope of 155 and rated a 76.8.
The famed #17 Island hole plays 137 yards from the Gold Tees. This might appear to be an easy 8 iron for many. That is until you stand on the tee box and stare across the pond that probably eats over 100,000 balls a year. Resist the urge to hit driver! Remember there is water on all sides.
Only elite PGA professionals get to play in the TPC tournament in May, but there are a few ways you can play the TPC Stadium Course.
If you stay at the adjoining Marriott Resort you can book a tee time. If you plan on visiting the area – anywhere from St Augustine to Jacksonville then the Marriott is a good location. And you will also be close to Ponte Vedra Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Florida.
