Animal Habitats
The animal habitats and areas are built to create natural environments for the animals to allow visitors a safe viewing up close. Here’s a list of the close encounter animal habitats at the Lowry Park Zoo.
Asian Gardens, Sulawesi Aviary and Lorikeet Landing Aviary: Many rare and endangered animals are found in this habitat with leopards, tigers, bears, Indian rhinos, and a komodo dragon. The aviaries can also be found in this area with a chance to feed the lorikeets, which is a favorite of many kids.
Birds of Prey: This area features a show with raptors called The Spirits of the Sky Show with condors, eagles, hawks, owls, and vultures.
Florida Boardwalk: Walk along the boardwalk and see the animals that live in Florida. Lowry Zoo is a Florida species conservation and biodiversity area with Florida alligators, crocodiles, bald eagles, black bears, panthers, Key Deer, river otters, stingrays, and birds such as the Sandhill Crane and Roseate Spoonbill.
Florida Manatee and Aquatic Center: View the endangered manatees up close below and above water in the observation pool. View zoo staff caring for manatees rescued from the wild in the David A. Starz Manatee Hospital.

Free Flight Aviaries:
There are three free flight areas of the zoo where visitors can view birds up close flying over head in their habitats. The main free flight aviary is near the Manatee Fountain with herons, storks, ibis, toucans, kingfishers, and toucans. Two additional aviaries are found in the Asian Gardens, the Sulawesi Aviary and Lorikeet Landing Aviary.
Primate World:
Visit primates from around the world with many of them endangered. The fun is all around with orangutans, chimpanzees, marmosets, tamarins, mandrills, and lemurs.
Safari Africa and Ituri Forest:
A jungle environment featuring elephants, zebras, giraffes, white rhinos, cheetahs, pygmy hippos, warthogs, and meerkats. Certain animals are only visible on the Safari Ride.
Wallaroo Station:
An interactive area for families with an Australian theme. Kids can pet goats, ride on horses, play in a water area, and ride the Tasmanian Tiger roller coaster. Children will see wallabies, cockatoos, bats, New Guinea singing dogs, kookaburras, and more.
Zoo Activities
Great exhibits with hands-on experiences include feeding a giraffe and white rhino while touching these large animals. A camel safari ride is also available for children and adults.
The Lowry Zoo offers several fun rides for free included with admission. The Gator Falls Flume Ride is a log ride that splashes down a 30-foot drop. Other rides include the Tasmanian Tiger Family Roller Coaster, Boomer’s Flying Bananas, and the Jungle Carousel. There is a locomotive train at Wallaroo Station and safari vehicle ride that guides you through the Safari Africa exhibit.

Zoo Programs and Events
Lowry Park Zoo is known for it’s interactive encounters with animals for visitors of all ages. Zoo Keepers host daily shows with opportunities to learn about the animals, and their behaviors and habits.
Zoo School at Lowry Park Zoo offers year round educational day camps and week long camps. The Zoo School also takes animals offsite to schools and functions to allow the community to interact and learn more about animals. Zoo Camps are offered during holidays, school days, and summer camps. Lowry Zoo also hosts birthday parties, sleepovers, and Parents Nights Out.
Annual events are held at Lowry Park Zoo including Boo Zoo, Gobble Gobble, Presents for Primates, Wild Wonderland, Winter Wonders, and Noon Year’s Eve.
Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa is a must visit with year round events and programs. The Zoo offers many incentives to get involved and connected. Adopt an Animal helps support the animal care and global conservation efforts for that particular species. And, Zoo Pass holders receive special invitations and discounts including free admission to other attractions like MOSI and the Florida Aquarium during special months.
