South Roosevelt Avenue is where you’ll find several hotels with ocean views facing the Atlantic Ocean in Key West.  There’s a great path along the beach where you can walk, run, or bike along Smathers Beach. 

Smathers Beach has beach volleyball, restrooms, and water sports rentals with kayaks and parasailing.  The hotels along Roosevelt Boulevard are closest to the Key West International Airport.  You’ll need transportation to get to the downtown area and most hotels offer free shuttle service.

Downtown Mallory Square where the nightly Key West Sunset Celebration takes place is hopping with hotels and resorts.  Many of the hotels in this area have ocean views on the “bay side” and amazing sunset views.  You don’t need a car to get around the island.  You can easily walk to shops, restaurants, buy a pass to the Old Town Trolley Tour service, or rent a bike or electric car.

Historic Hotels and Resorts in Key West

Duval Street is the most well known street in Key West.  Along this street you’ll find hotels with lots of character, suite rentals in bed and breakfast hotels, historic inns, and small hidden resort style hotels.  You can walk outside your hotel day or night to join the fun along Duval Street with Sloppy Joe’s, one of Ernest Hemingway’s favorite bars in Key West nearby.

Southernmost Point is an another historic area to stay in while in Key West.  You’ll find the Southernmost hotel, bed and breakfast, and resorts around this area.  The hotels have pools, Tiki Bars, and other amenities to keep you in an “island” atmosphere.  This selection of hotels aren’t far from the downtown shops and restaurants.  Many of these hotels are located on Duval Street towards the ocean side.

Many of the Key West hotels have won awards.  The charm and character of this town lends itself to small resort style hotels.  One of the award winning hotels is The Garden Hotel in the downtown area.  It has won awards for “World’s Top 100 Best Places to Stay” and “The Prettiest Hotel in Key West”.




Hotel Rates in Key West

Depending on the time of year you come, Key West hotel prices will vary drastic.  During off season, if you get a hotel room for $150 then during season it may double or triple in price.

Off season in Key West is during summer months when it is warm.  Some hotels state off season is from April through December.  At this time, you’ll find the best hotel rates in Key West. 

During the “season” which are the cooler months from December through April, the hotel room rates increase with all the visitors looking for a tropical climate during the winter months.

Festivals in Key West also have a big impact on room rates.  Fantasy Fest which is held annually in mid to late October attracts up to 70,000 participants.  The hotel room rates increase with the supply and demand of seasons, festivals, and other events around Key West.
