Florida Keys Wild Bird Center

If you’re a bird lover, stop by the Wild Bird Center in Tavernier on the bay side.  You’ll see a variety of species native to the Florida Keys as well as migrating birds. The center was set up in 1984 to help injured birds.  There is little funding from the government so this bird rehab depends on donations to keep it going.

Along the boardwalk, you’ll see many healthy birds that pay a visit to the center along with injured birds that are temporarily housed at the Wild Bird Center as they recover.

Every afternoon the volunteers feed the wild birds on the waterfront.  The feeding attracts a lot of pelicans and other Florida Keys water birds like egrets, herons, and spoonbills.  The bird center is opened daily during daylight hours and is free to the public.

The board walk weaves through natural Florida habitat and ends up on the beach (bay side) where you can see wading birds in the shallow water.

Florida Keys Wild Bird Center is located at 93600 Overseas Highway, Tavernier, Florida 33070.

Comments about: Florida Keys Wild Bird Center

We really enjoyed the Bird center. Everyone there was so nice and you could tell they really loved the birds and their job. Feeding the birds was a great experience. I am glad the birds have a place like this to come to, to get better.
