Bowl Games in Florida

As snow ice and sleet pound much of the US Florida is bathed in sunshine - perfect weather for the 6 bowl games in the sunshine state.  There are two bowl games in Miami, two in Orlando and games in Tampa and Jacksonville.

Shortcut: Florida Sports  

Florida will host the big game - the BCS Championship in Miami that includes the University of Florida Gators against the Oklahoma Sooners.  Another highlight (for Floridians) is the Champs Sports Bowl that includes the FSU Seminoles versus the Wisconsin Badgers.

As you would expect the Inside Florida team is from Florida so we are a mixture of Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles (FSU). This year we will be at both the BCS Championship game and the Champs Sports Bowl to watch our teams.

Champs Sports Bowl - Orlando

The Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando is the site for the 2008 Champs Sports Bowl. The game takes place on Saturday Dec 27, 308 and includes The Florida State Seminoles and the Wisconsin Badgers. A subtext in this game are the coaches. At 79 Bobby Bowden is one of the oldest college football coaches, while Bret Bielema - coach of Wisconsin is one of the youngest.

Champs Sports Bowl Game Summary

FSU Seminoles: 8 and 4 overall record
Wisconsin Badgers: 7 and 5 overall record

Being in Orlando should give FSU a home field advantage. The Inside Florida team will be there and several of us are FSU graduates..

Capitol One Bowl - Orlando

Because one bowl game is not enough there are two in Orlando. The Capital One Bowl takes place at the Florida Citrus Bowl stadium and features number 15 Georgia against number 18 Michigan State.

Georgia Bulldogs: 9 and 3 overall record

This game features two top running backs so look for a battle on the ground.


Gator Bowl - Jacksonville

The Gator Bowl in Jacksonville will feature the Clemson Tigers against the Nebraska Cornhuskers.  Clemson had a little turmoil during the 2008 season with a coaching change but did win three straight at the end of the season.

Location: Jacksonville Municipal Stadium

Events leading up to the game include a pep rally at Jacksonville Landing on Dec 31, 2008 at 1:30 PM for Clemson and at 5:30 PM for Michigan State.

Outback Bowl - Tampa

The Outback Bowl in Tampa takes place at Raymond James Stadium - home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 2008 Outback Bowl features the South Carolina Gamecocks versus the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Iowa represents the Big Ten, while South Carolina is from the Sec.

Orange Bowl - Miami

The 2009 Orange Bowl in Miami will feature the ACC Champion Virginia Tech Hokies versus the Big East Champion Cincinnati Bearcats.

There was a time when the Orange Bowl actually took place in a stadium called the Orange Bowl and was the national championship game. These days the Fedex Orange Bowl takes place at Dolphins Stadium in Miami Gardens. 

BCS National Championship - Miami

The big game is in Miami Florida and features the University of Florida Gators versus the Oklahoma Sooners. The BCS Championship takes place at Dolphins Stadium in Miami Gardens on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 8 PM.

Won the Big 12 with a 7 and 1 conference record, have scored 61 or more points in their last five games.

The BCS Championship Game in Miami is the national championship game and should be high scoring and exciting. This game takes place in the same stadium as the Orange Bowl seven days earlier.
