Marathon is home to the Keys Original Seafood Festival held every March. Great seafood restaurants, beautiful beaches, awesome snorkeling and fishing make Marathon a popular Florida vacation destination.
Marathon has approximately 11,000 residents and spreads across numerous islands starting at Mile Marker 58.5 on Grassy Key and ending at Mile Marker 47 over Pigeon Key where the Seven Mile Bridge begins.
The city of Marathon is a 10 mile long city located in the Middle Keys and is often called the “Heart of the Keys.”
The islands within the Marathon city limits are Boot Key, Conch Key, Crawl Key, Deer Key, Duck Key, Fat Deer Key, Grassy Key, Hog Key, Knight Key, Little Crawl Key, Long Point Key, Sister’s Islands, Stirrup Key, and Vaca Key. Within the Marathon area, you’ll find the incorporated city of Key Colony Beach which is set out on an island in the Atlantic Ocean.
