The Fort Pierce Inlet is a wide are relatively safe inlet to navigate. There is excellent fishing along the jetty, which is very long and has lots of room for fishermen.
Depending on the conditions you can catch a wide variety of fish from Snook and Redfish to Tarpon, Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, and Trout.
